“Read my lips: we’re going to cut spending.”- House Speaker John Boehner, borrowing an expression from George H.W. Bush, who famously used the phrase in a campaign promise not to raise taxes. Bush broke that promise. Boehner left the stage quickly after that comment and is reported to have said, “I can’t believe I just said that.”
