When I was in Germany, a young German man on a train turned to me and said, "You know, Americans tend to have a stereotype of Germans as humorless and angry and yelling. Like we're Nazis. And, you know, this is true of my grandparents. They are like Nazis. But we, we are not like Nazis. We have a sense of humor. So when you get to Hollywood, please make a new stereotype for Germans."
I think of that when I see headlines like the one Yglesias went with here.
(Update: Anti-Hellenism is hatred of the Greeks. Greeks are not Germans. I'm disappointed in my late-night self for getting this confused.)
