Creative Children

Argh, go read The Frontal Cortex! Go read it! Today's RTWT is about how school teachers tend not to want creative students. He ends it with yet another plea for arts education for our children... which is nice to hear from a neurologist, rather than the vested interest of an arts educator.

Either I'm a statistical outlier amongst teachers or this study was done in another school district.

If there is a sort of student I dislike, it's not the impulsively creative student, it's the impulsively cruel and violent student.

As much as I agree with the conclusion that we need more arts education, I don't get a sense from the summary that the researchers grasp what's going on in a classroom. If kids aren't learning multiplication tables, or the basics of grammar, daydreaming is not likely the culprit.
