HOW WE MAKE THE CASE: It's Fair To Get Paid

An artist really eloquently puts why it's important for artists to get paid for their work:

It's becoming a bigger and bigger cultural conversation, whether it's the Upright Citizens Brigade or The Atlantic. As the technology of mass communication (and, with 3D printing, duplication), the economics of "Free" is going to become a bigger and thornier issue. A larger-than-ever slice of our economy is going to be maintained by freelancers and consultants, and that can be a double-edged sword.

I read the Fractured Atlas email they sent out today and got excited about this particular topic. I am no artist (I am a computer nerd that appreciates art) but my good friend is.

Artists should get paid for their talent and time. But my buddy had a hard time "finding an art job". I think that is why many artists resort to free work--get their work out there till someone pays.

I took my nerd skills and built a site for artists. -- Supporting Art by Supporting Artists. And that is why I am heavily listening to these conversations from actual artists.
